IKEA’s Invests in Second Wind Project

IKEA’s commitment to reducing their carbon footprint has led the company to the company making its first investment in a wind farm. IKEA is working to fulfill their mission to generate renewable energy equivalent to the same amount of electricity the company now uses by 2020.

The wind farm is dubbed the Hoopeston Wind project and is the second wind project investment for IKEA. Hoopeston Wind project is located in Illinois and will have a capacity of 98w. To date, the project is the largest single investment in renewable energy globally.

Hoopeston Wind Project will be constructed and managed by Apex Clean Energy. Construction of the wind farm is currently underway and the completion date is set for 2015. IKEA is expecting that the farm will generate approximately 380 GWh annually. This amount is just a fraction of the total energy that IKEA U.S stores consume annually.
